The Devastation of Hurricane Richard

We are safe, however, took a hard personal hit from the storm. Here is what happened:

Village: Roofs were torn off houses and a couple of houses are destroyed. We will need a couple of teams to come down and rebuild these houses.

The base: Everything is soaked! We have a busted window in the lodge. Also, our concrete path is damaged, our huge water containers have been blown off the buildings, and we are sure that our house is full of wet clothing.

WE WILL UPDATE MORE ON THE VILLAGE AND BASE AFTER JOHN GOES THEIR TO SEE FOR HIMSELF.

Our Apartment: Our apartment was devastated by the storm. We returned today to find an apartment that was flooded with four feet of water and now has an inch thick of sludge. It will take days to clean and we lost many of our appliances and food. All of our appliances were high (or so we thought) but the water was so strong it knocked them down. This is especially difficult for us because I can not help clean because of the c-section and the babies and John can not do it by himself. We are currently working out a plan.

Please pray for us. This is a really stressful time right now, as John has to take care of the base, the apartment, and our family. I cried, I will be honest. God is taking care of us and we are so thankful for His hand of protection on us and the villagers and base. Praise you Lord through this storm!

Many people ask what can be done at a time like this. We honestly need funding for the base, the village, and for our personal items that were lost in the storm. If you would like to help with either of these things, please contact us via the following e-mail: belizemission@gmail.com or e-mail us through this blog in the “contact us” section on the right side.

Thank you for your continued prayers! We love you all!

You have been in our thoughts and prayers as we heard that it was heading straight for you. We thank the Lord for your safety. How frustrating it must be to have everything wet or damaged. We just had a commissioning service for Matt Lenhard on Sunday. I’m sure he will be help for John when he gets there but in the mean time John has his plate full. Our prayers are with you and your family.

Mel ! We are praying for you, the kids and John for sure. I wish I could hope on a plane and fix it all for you!!! and by the way, it’s OK to cry!!! It’s OK. I can’t imagine the stress dealing with this let along with 2 little ones – how scary! Yes, continue to talk and lean on God for help and he will light the path, and guide your plan to clean it all up and get back to normal.
We are so thankful for your protection!! love you – jodi

I know things are hard right now, but we are praying for you and I promise that God will help you get through this and won’t let you down. I wish that I could be there to help you. Remember that it is ok to cry. I have found through my own struggles that only when you are broken and crying and on your knees can God truly raise you up and show you his strength! You can do it! We’ll keep you in our prayers. Love you!

Mel I am thinking about you and John and the girls and sending you prayers. It is perfectly alright to feel sad and frustrated and angry and cry! I would be crying a lot! We are all human and have those real moments when life hands us just a little too much to bear. Hugs momma as you continue to recover and care for your girls… Love you!
