Day 6

The group got a chance today to sit in on a Belizean church service. I think they were a good encouragement to our new pastor, Kenny Welch, as they were able to help out with the music. Brian and Zach are posting with more info:

Hey guys this is Brian and Zach here to give you your day six update. We got up this morning and had pancakes and plantains for breakfast. Then we caught the boat to the village for Sunday School and Church. Some of our team members lead the children in the VBS songs at the beginning of Sunday School and also lead in worship songs for the adults. It is great to see the village come together for worship. Kenny the local pastor gave a message from the gospel of John. After the service we went to Nacho’s where Miss Alice prepared a wonderful Sunday dinner. We ate outside picnic style. After dinner we returned to the mission base, some of the students went swimming. While they were swimming Zach and Caleb learned a lesson in Marine Biology. Mainly focusing on the pain that a jellyfish can cause when you try to swim in the same place that they are trying to swim. Parents do not fear, our group is really getting close. The word is that urine is a remedy for the sting of a jelly fish. Caleb in an act of brotherly love shared some body fluids with Zach to help ease his pain. Shai he will be okay. Brandon a local craftsman came to the base with us to show us how to make drums and jewelry. We spent the rest of the afternoon just hanging out. Pray for us tomorrow as we go back into the village and finish up our VBS. Also in the morning the guys will be going to play “football” with the guys in the village. We would really like to share Christ with them, please pray that we are wise in our approach and have a good chance to share the gospel with these men.
>Cammie tell Allysa to comment the blog.
>Parents I want to thank all of you for your responses, I wish you could see how your kids faces light up when they hear that you have posted on the blog. We have been focusing on encouraging each other and your words of love and encouragement are a great example to our students.

  8. Billy & Frankie Atkinson

We have enjoyed reading your comments each night. It sounds like yall are getting a lot accomplished over there (at least in between accidents). I was just telling Billy that I couldn’t believe we have not heard anything out of Zach since he is normally the accident prong one. Zach, Uncle Billy said he could have understood the horse or maybe a motorbike, but a jellyfish? Billy said he guess Caleb has obtained some medical knowledge while taking Buddy back & forth from church. Buddy will like to hear that you have put some of it to good use. Judy, take care of Zach. I bet a slim jim would make it feel all better. Got any left? Looking forward to reading your updates each night. Can’t wait to hear from you when you get back. We’re praying for you.

  9. Grandma Barbara and PaPa

Hi Amber and the gang. Sounds like you all are having a really good time. Hope everyone is receptive to the message and nothing else goes wrong. Remember, the animals are not use to the Southern drawl, and that’s why you are having so much trouble with them. Glad to know of the remedy for jellyfish stings since the beaches in South Carolina have jellyfish here too. We are praying for all of you, so enjoy sharing God’s message. You are representing God and Lakeview Church so be on your best behavior. Amber, hope your ketchup holds out!!!!!! You may have to ration it. Love you very much, and miss you just as much. Love, Grandma Barbara and Papa

  14. Wil Atkinson & Garrett Spivey

zach man whats wrong with you. i mean of all the things in the ocean to get hurt by and you choose to pick a dern jellyfish. well i guess you and michael can talk about how it feels now. haha. tell aunt judy to fix it for you. haha and i thought you would be the one to get attacked by a horse not kasey. you always try to rub them so why not try to pick on something your own size instead of a jellyfish. haha but tell everyone i said hey and you better have shared the slim jims. haha and ask jacob if he is getting showed up by those kids in soccer. alright well peace out everybody.

Peace eveybody love yall, wil and garrett

  15. David & Wanda Hodge

Sorry to hear about the jellyfish sting. I know from firsthand experience how painful that can be. We are praying for all of you and that God will open the way for you to share the gospel of our wonderful Lord and Savior. Thanks for the updates each day. It allows me to feel the excitement about how God is using you in a mighty way while you are there. Ashlyn, your Aunt Karen read your blog entry yesterday and said she could just hear you through the writing. Dad and I love you very much and are lifting you up through prayer. Take care of yourselves!

  16. Sandra Newton

Ok Here I am. Zach I’m thinking about you and hoping the body fluid thing worked. Doug said plently of rubbing alcohol is what he had to use when he got stung. Jacob you look after Zach, Casey, Kaleb and Aunt Judy make sure they don’t get into any trouble. I was thinking the same too that the girls didn’t seem to be getting picked on by the animal life in Belize.. I do miss each and everyone of you in your on special way. I will be so glad to see Wednesday. Continue to stay focused on what you are doing and share the good news of Jesus shout it from the rooftops. Jacob Preacher Mark for Antioch in Lumberton said ya’ll can come and share about your trip we just have to call him and set it up.
    I Love you all
    Love always
    Sandra Newton

  17. Kris Radcliff

    Hey All!

I’ve been praying for you all week and enjoy your blog comments. Somehow, they always have a way of making me hungry! Wink, wink. You were all greatly missed at church today as the youth rows seemed very empty, and there were only 3 Seniors in Sunday School. However, we all think it is WONDERFUL that you have this opportunity to serve Christ in Belize. Keep up the good work, and remember to do everything to the glory of God.

    In His Love,
    Kris

  18. Kenneth Hughes

Hey guys, Sorry I was not able to get to a computer yesterday to read your post and all the great comments. Parents I want to express to you how great it is to see you encourageing your students while they are in Belize. This is something you do not get to do at Fuge. I am excited about the guys sharing Jesus with the soccer team. Let me know how that goes. Zach, well i don’t know what to say. I am with the parents, what is it with the guys and animals down there!
Students this is for all of you from your youth minister! The things you are doing down there can be done back in Hartsville. Our youth group has gone far to long without all of you bonding together and working together to share Christ with our community. We are a great youth group when we are together and focused. Right now we are not so great but i know that God is going to use this trip to make our group great again and make the name of Jesus great in the community. My heart is with each and everyone one of you. I have been thinking about each of you continually. I have also been praying for you continually. Talk about what I just said and determine while you are down there what Lakeview youth group will look like when you get back. This is not my youth group it is your youth group. You determine it’s future. I love you guys very much and I want God’s best for you. You are planting seeds there that could result in someone spending their eternity in heaven. Brian and Judy thank you for the terrific job you are doing with the students.
Here is an update from the other side of the world. Yesterday we went to two seperate worship services. It was amazing to hear them worshiping to the same songs we worship to, except in their own language. All I could think about is how someone at some point decided to follow God’s call and go on mission here to tell people about Jesus (much like you guys are doing right now). As a result we got to hear people singing praises to Jesus. You never know how you can affect the future for someone. We spent the rest of our time buying gifts and going out to eat with Adam, Rebecca, and Keenan. We got to bed early and I think we finally adusted to the time here.
Today we went to a school and shared more stories with children. One of the moms there is a Muslin. After we were finished we were cleaning up and this Muslim woman asked one of the translators if I would pray for her. She has cancer. She is not a believer but she asked me to pray that God would open her heart and eyes to Jesus. She also asked me to pray for her teen son who is having problems. She also has a young daughter. Her husband would be angry if he know she asked for those kinds of prayers. I used the translator to pray for her. Her face was covered in tears when I was finished. It was a very special time. I was honored to be able to pray for her. She is so close to accepting Jesus but if she does it means she looses everything here.
Another girl who is a teacher she asked for prayer because she is trying to understand God’s will for her life. She teaches the kids in the school but cannot share Jesus. She says she just tries to be salt and light to them and she uses other creative ways to share Christ.
Tim is speaking at the seminary right now. We are praying that his topic. “Love your Neighbor, tell your story” goes well. It is the perfect topic for this culture. The girls went with Rebecca to get pampered for a while. They deserve it. Philip, Adam, Keenan, and me are relaxing right now. I speak at the seminary tomorrow. Keep me in your prayers. Allyson is doing such a good job with the children here. Philip is keeping everyone laughing.
Guys I have to tell you it is HOT at the equator!
Keep up the good work! I am proud of all of you. I can’t wait to see you all.

  19. Tim McKnight

Hey guys, I am excited about what God is doing through you in Belize. Know that I am praying for you all. I will be praying particularly for your excursion tomorrow. I hope you all have a great time! Sorry I have not been able to write much. We have limited access here.

I pray you will bring back what God has done through you to Hartsville. We will have a big celebration service on Sunday morning June 28th.

I didn’t get to read the updates yesterday and was glad to be able to “catch up” today. Amber, did you actually take your own bottle of ketchup to Belize with you? Where’s your sense of adventure – you should have used some of that Belizian habanero hot sauce on your fries! Ha!

I am so glad you are having such a wonderful time. Wish I could be in South Carolina to hear your “report” when you get back. I am just thankful for this blog where I can hear what all is going on.

I am praying for you all!
