A “Belize Mission and Retreat” day

Hey everyone! Yesterday was exhausting for us so I did not get a chance to write. Yesterday I got to go in to Belize City with Vera, and John stayed at the base to help with the directors house that is being built. We went into the city (an 1 1/2 drive) to pick up a young lady named Suzie who is joining us for the remainder of our trip. We also needed more supplies.

We get to the airport, pick her up, eat lunch, and make about five stops before heading back out to the base. You all have heard before about our first Belize City experience. So just imagine about the same thing. Hustle and bustle, always watching your things so they don’t get stolen, making your way through hot, stuffy stores, and so and so and such and such.

On our way back, we have to travel on a dirt road for about thirty miles. Now, this is not your “run-of-the-mill”, South Carolina dirt road. We’re talking about the worst dirt road I’ve seen to date. We were crusin’ along and then, uh-oh, FLAT TIRE!!!!!!!!!!! We climbed out of the car, there are no houses or stores for miles, but thankfully we had two men with us who knew what they were doing. WELCOME TO BELIZE!

After we changed the tire, it was back in the car, over to the village, through the lagoon, and across the jungle, to the mission base we went. We left at 9:30 and did not arrive to the mission base until 5:30, and THAT was making good time! After dinner John and I learned to play canasta. Frustrating but fun and I’m looking forward to playing again, although my strategy is a little off.

Canasta is a pretty fun game, and not just for senior citizens like the stereotype suggests. It’s been a while since I have played, but I have a pretty decent strategy.
