Today in my devotions I read the following scripture:
Luke 2:48-50- When his parents saw him, they were astonished. His mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you.” “Why were you searching for me?” he asked. “Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?” But they did not understand what he was saying to them.
Then the question was asked in my devotional: “When was the last time you received an answer from the Lord that seemed this far above your ability to understand it?”
I immediately wrote: When He first called me to Belize. I remember I had just gotten back from my first trip (John had not been at this point), all desire to go to London had gone away and all I could think about was Belize. I did not understand, I cried out to God and asked Him for the desire to go to London again. I knew what going to Belize would mean. But God continued to replace the desire to go to London with His desire for us to go to Belize. It was difficult but necessary.
Now looking back at that process I understand that God did not require us to understand but he required us to be obedient. Sometimes we don’t understand why God works in the mysterious ways he does. But I can guarantee He’s asking for obedience.
You are so right. As we have been studying Abraham’s life, God stresses several times that He is blessing Abraham for his obedience, and that He also blessed Isaac because of his FATHER’S obedience. Our obedience not only affects us, but our families, as well. We are so thankful for your and John’s obedience to God’s leading.
Girl,
Thanks so much for that word of encouragement! I love seeing God at work in you. I would like to be at the send off prayer, but not sure because that is my anniversary. Keep me posted though in case plans to go out of town for me change.
Love ya’,
Ann
One of my Meals on Wheels clients was lamenting the fact she and her husband will probably have to move because her daughter is moving and she feels to old to have to change houses, start over etc.. and I was sharing about Abraham;we are never to young or to old to have to obey. Selah. DC2
