Back from Belize

Despite the severe flooding throughout Belize, I made it back on Saturday. It turned out to be a really good trip. We had a man give control of his life to Christ, we had two people on the team express that they felt a call to further missions involvement, we supplied the materials and built part of a house for a family in need in the village. We got to see the glowing faces of the couple that got married in the village. The husband told me “I feel like a weight has been lifted because of the guilt of living in fornication for so long.” We got to witness Kenny, a young man from the village, preach his second sermon in the church. Truly God has given him the gift of teaching, and he’s expressed the desire to pastor the church once he finishes at the University. This is an answer to years of prayer. We are hoping to be able to sponsor him for additional seminary training in the future.

Truly, Christ is being glorified. The mission continues to experience hardship though. I chatted with Vera briefly today. She was borrowing the keys to Mike’s truck to distribute plywood with two gentlemen that had come on a vision trip. As she was coming down the stairs, she slipped and fell and sprained her ankle.

The gentlemen changed their flight plans so that they could stay with her for a couple extra days. They helped her do some shopping so she could stay holed up in her apartment in the city until the next team arrives. Unfortunately, it looks like she’s going to be on crutches for possibly several weeks. It’s going to be extremely difficult when she gets the next team out to the base though. Being there requires climbing many stairs, climbing in and out of boats, and lots of walking.

To make matters worse, somewhere in the mix, her phone has gone missing. She’s hoping that it’s at the base somewhere.

Please pray that she’ll have the strength and help she needs to host the next team (arriving on Friday.)

It’s been a joy to be serving on the field, but now we must shift our focus back to training and MPD as we continue to work toward getting on the field by next summer (Lord willing). Thank you for your prayers and encouragement.
