An American No More

Last night we took Evangeline for her last McDonalds visit. We have one here that has a toddler play place and she just loves it. As I watched her climb and laugh and walk it hit me that this “luxury” of a McDonalds play place will not exist for her any more. Playgrounds in general are hard to find in Belize. It got me thinking about how much she is going to change. She only has lived here for one year, a year that she will not remember. But she will remember Belize. It will be her home. She might become more Belizean than American. This is not good or bad, it’s just different. Who takes their kids from a successful nation and brings them into third world poverty? We do. We have too because God has asked us and we can’t say no. Just some thoughts I had.

Well, I’ve got to run because I have a ton of stuff to do. Please continue to pray for my mom and family as they try to make it to VA today. They have come across some road blocks, but are very determined.

We experienced many of the same things. We had McDonald’s, of course, but parks were scarce and many of the American conveniences were missing. In the end, however, you quickly realize how unnecessary those things really are. Evangeline with have life experiences that far outweigh the McDonald’s play place and she won’t regret it for a second.

Melissa, I was thinking Evangeline will probably be a better person without all of these American “luxuries”. When she comes to the U.S. she’ll be so appreciative of the things American kids take for granted. See, God knows what he’s doing!! I’ve been praying for your mom and the snow situation. May God give you the courage you need to go forth into the world. Love, Val

Evangeline will be richer in the end for having lived in another country, especially where there is much poverty. You will too. “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might be rich.” How rich we are. May you make many Belizeans rich also. Blessings.

  5. God knows the plans He has for Evangeline too.

    John & Mel,
Question: Are you/Did you apply for Belizean citizenship … and how did that process work … or …. are you on the pay as you stay plan?
We’ll talk to you when we see you on the 27th.
We’re considering the QRP – Qualified Retirement Plan approach.
    See ya

I love how you put that you can’t say no to God!! That is wonderful because there are many who do. He will bless you for following His leading!
