A Grief-Stricken Village

It is with heavy hearts that we tell you a dear friend of ours and villager passed away this morning. Her name is Davine. You might recall me writing a blog about her needing medication. She did receive the medication and seemed to be feeling better. We do not yet know the cause of death.

Davine was a young 23 year old. She leaves behind a daughter Jasmine and her husband Janito. She was a member of our church and the Sunday School teacher. She was always joyful. Even if she was in pain she had a joy about her. She always had a smile to great you and a sweet spirit. She was gearing up to teach reading in the school. A position which the Lord will have to fill now. Davine was loved by all in the village. Her death weighs heavy on us all. She will be missed. I was told that everyone in the village cried.

I went to go visit Davine’s mother today and they are mourning of course. We will be there to help them and Davine’s little girl the best we can. Please pray for John and I as Basil is back in the states to be with Vera for her next surgery. Comforting those is mourning and being “Pastor and counselor” of sorts is a new thing for us. Pray that God will give us wisdom beyond our years.

Davine’s little girl Jasmine said her Mom was in a coma. Please pray for Jasmine. School is starting soon and I am going to make sure she has all she needs, but she will need so much more suring this confusing time.

Pray for the village. I can’t explain everything now, but the Lord is really shaking it up. Our hearts are heavy for this place and so is Kenny’s (the village pastor).

Thank you for your prayers during this difficult time.

I’m so sorry guys. Give my love to John also Mel. My heart hurts so bad when I hear these stories. As a nurse my spiritual gift is serving, empathy and compassion. I cried the night I fully realized the roadblocks there are in the people of gales point to receive their needed medication and sometimes simple medical care. I so wish I was a NP now and could take time off to help you guys in that area of need. It is my hearts desire to serve in that capacity. You guys can only stretch so thin. God bless all that you do.

We will be lifting you two, her family and the village up in prayer. So often the Lord uses death of a believer in a powerful way to reach unbelievers. We love you!

“He giveth more grace as the burdens grow greater. He sendeth more strength as the labors increase. To added afflictions, He addeth his mercy; to multiplied trials, His multiplied peace…..For out of His infinite riches in Jesus, He giveth, and giveth, and giveth again.” We are praying for you all, and the Lord will be faithful to supply the wisdom and grace that you need. We share in the sorrow of your loss, but rejoice in the testimony of one who was faithful to Christ.

I’m so sorry to hear of Davine’s passing yet joyful that her faith ensures her a permanent home with our Heavenly Father. I will be praying for her family, especially her daughter who will undoubtedly feel the most pain at the loss of her mother. Keep on trusting God and follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit, for He is with you exactly where you are and you needn’t lean on your own understanding. He will make your path straight so that you’ll know what He wants you to do, He provides the wisdom when we are lacking. Much love to you and the villagers. You, John, and Evangeline are such a blessing to the people there. I can only imagine how many hearts have been touched by your little princess’ precious grin.

I thank God for the opportunity to be involved in your ministry through prayer.

I pray God will supply all of your(the village, Davine’s family, and your family’s) needs according to His riches in Glory.

  7. Hi Mel,

I was praying for you and John this morning, that God would multiply your time just to be with Davine’s friends and family. I was struck by how important it was while we were there just to sit and be with people, and I know God will give you the words to speak His love into their lives and into this situation.

Oh, Sweetie, how hard. Be assured of our prayer support. It is now time to practice with those in the church family how to cast your cares/burdens upon the Lord and experience His sustaining power. (1Pet 5:7) And the villagers will notice. I love the mind picture I get from the word “cast” because in the sport of fishing, when you cast your line with the hook, there’s so much hope & expectation involved. May that be your experience as you cast your sorrow and worries and questions to Him. I’ll have to wait for Heaven now to meet Davine.
